INSUFFLATION (BREATHING SYSTEM)

-- INSUFFLATION Listen to Audio -blowing of anesthetic gases across a patient's face -anesthetic technique that avoids direct connection between a breathing circuit and patient's airway -often useful intially in pediatric patients due to thier resistance of face mask, I.V lines, etc. -insufflation of high flows (ex. oxygen > 10L/min) may prevent accumulation of carbon dioxide under sterile drapes -lack of rebreathing on exhaled gases -uncontrolled ventilation -unpredictable amounts of inspired gas exits into atmopshere (ex. operating room environment) -insufflating the trachea with a cathetor, arterial oxygenation can be briefly sustained during small procedures (ex. bronchoscopy)
