From Jennifer Kyrnin, your Guide to Web Design / HTML
This week I reviewed a new SitePoint book HTML5 and CSS3 for the Real World and I explain a term that comes up when looking at HTML editors—IDE. Plus, an older article about markup languages.

A free class is a great way to learn new web design techiques. I have classes on HTML, Web Design, CSS, and even XML. Check out all the free web development classes offered on my site and other About.com sites.

Please forward this newsletter, in its entirety, to your colleagues, coworkers and friends, anyone you think would like to learn more about web design, HTML, and web development.

Real World HTML5 and CSS3
If you've been considering HTML5 or CSS3 but haven't been willing to make the jump yet, then this book might be just the ticket. It's not a book that will teach you HTML or CSS, but if you already have familiarity with them, it will help you update your websites to more modern technology.

What is an IDE?
Several HTML editors have the term “IDE” in their title like Komodo IDE and Eclipse IDE. But what is an IDE? Is this something you should use instead of more traditional web editors like Dreamweaver or CoffeeCup? What about if you write web applications? Learn more about IDEs and how they can be used for web development.

What are Markup Languages
A markup language is a language that has tags that provide information about the enclosed content. If you write web pages you are using a markup language (HTML) every day.

Poll: What CSS3 features have you used?
CSS3 offers a lot of new features that make web design a lot more exciting and interesting. Rounded corners are a lot easier with the border-radius property. You can make borders more interesting with the border-image property. There are ways to create shadows on your boxes and text with the box-shadow and text-shadow properties. You can work with multiple layered background images and and create multi-column layouts with CSS3. There are also new attribute selectors and pseudo classes to select more specific items in your design. And CSS3 also offers opacity with the opacity property and with RGBa colors. Plus lots more.
