From Jennifer Kyrnin, your Guide to Web Design / HTML
Many new designers think that the border around a table and between the cells is just one border, but in the default model, it's actually two. The border surrounds the entire table and each cell individually, creating a double thick edge or a double-line border with space between. This week I show you how to adjust that space with CSS. I also wanted to show you a site that explains visually how well or poorly HTML5 and CSS3 is supported. If you've been holding off on HTML5 because of lack of browser support, you may start to reconsider. And finally, I help you understand more about fonts by answering the question “What is a font?”

Did you know that I've been writing about HTML, CSS, and web design since 1997? I have hundreds if not thousands of articles on the site that have just as much relevance today as they did when I first wrote them. You can find them by searching the site, or more simply by browsing my article library. And if you can't find the answer to your question, you can always suggest an article or ask a question in my web design and HTML forums.

Please forward this newsletter, in its entirety, to your colleagues, coworkers and friends, anyone you think would like to learn more about web design, HTML, and web development.

What is a Font?
Most new designers don't realize that a font is more than just what font family displays on the screen. When you choose the font, you should be choosing the family, size, weight, style, line height, and more. This article explains the difference between a font and a font-family.

Poll: Do you use the BR element?
This isn't as straightforward a question as you might think. There are some designers who feel that BR isn't semantic and should no longer be used. Vote Now View Results
