From Jennifer Kyrnin, your Guide to Web Design / HTML
If you visit my site more often than just the newsletter you may have noticed that last week I completely disappeared. Nothing happened, no vacation or emergency or even a good excuse, I just completely forgot to blog for About.com. OOPS! :-) But I'm back now, with a new article from Alexander on how the box model affects more form elements, plus a look at some of the things people forget about when building localized global websites. And the last feature is one I think is very important--web copyright. If you build web pages you should know your rights and know what is okay to use or not. And here's to remembering to do my work again.

A free class is a great way to learn new web design techiques. I have classes on HTML, Web Design, CSS, and even XML. Check out all the free web development classes offered on my site and other About.com sites.

Please forward this newsletter, in its entirety, to your colleagues, coworkers and friends, anyone you think would like to learn more about web design, HTML, and web development.

How the Box Model Affects Forms
My intern, Alexander Peev, has done a lot of research in how the box model affects the way forms look in various browsers. In this second installment, Alexander looks at the file upload fields, the drop-down menu options, and HTML5 form fields.

Don't Forget the Dates on International Pages
When writing web pages for an audience beyond the country where you live and work, it can be easy to forget that they don’t do things exactly how you might in your country. Sure, you will remember to change the language and use special character codes, but there are other things you should do to make your pages understandable to an international audience.

Copyright on the Web
Copyright is really not that tricky. If you didn’t create, build, or write the content you’re about to put on your web page, then you are almost certainly violating someone’s copyright. Just because someone posted an image or wrote a blog and put it on the web does not make that image or text “public domain” any more than displaying the photo in an art gallery or the text in a magazine.

Last Chance to Vote in the Readers' Choice Awards
2012 About.com Readers' Choice Awards I am honestly astonished at the voting this year for the Readers' Choice Awards. But if you haven't seen them or haven't voted, you still have one more day. Polls close tomorrow, and the standings are currently: Obama for Best Presidential Candidate site design, Smashing Magazine for Best Website for Designers, @boagworld for Best Twitterer for Designers, CoffeeCup for Best HTML Editor for Macintosh, Website X5 Evolution for Best HTML Editor for Windows, GoDaddy for Best Hosting Provider, and Sagacity Works for Best Web Design. If those aren't your choices, vote now to up your favorites. And if they are, don't assume there won't be an upset in the next 24 hours, go vote!
