From Jennifer Kyrnin, your Guide to Web Design / HTML
I got asked this weekend if optimizing web pages for speed was really all that important in this era of broadband. After thinking about it, I still believe it is. Plus there has been a lot of discussion about the Google over-optimization penalties. Is your site hit? Find out what you can do. And if you're a freelancer in the U.S. don't forget your taxes!

Did you know that I've been writing about HTML, CSS, and web design since 1997? I have hundreds if not thousands of articles on the site that have just as much relevance today as they did when I first wrote them. You can find them by searching the site, or more simply by browsing my article library. And if you can't find the answer to your question, you can always suggest an article or ask a question in my web design and HTML forums.

Please forward this newsletter, in its entirety, to your colleagues, coworkers and friends, anyone you think would like to learn more about web design, HTML, and web development.

Is speed really still important with high-speed connections?
I've been thinking about this issue for a long time now. In fact, I used to argue that doing things like minifying HTML did not result in large enough speed gains to be noticeable, but could in fact slow down a site's maintenance schedule as the designers and writers would have to un-minify things just to fix a problem or change a page. But I've changed my mind. I now think that even these small gains are important and this article explains why.

Poll: What software do you use for ecommerce?
There are a lot of options when you decide to build an ecommerce store. But how do you choose the best one? The About.com Guide to Ecommerce recommends Shopify because it is hosted and easy to use, and best of all has apps to make the too basic Shopify options much more robust. But there are other options.
