From Jennifer Kyrnin, your Guide to Web Design / HTML
Testing web designs is a very important skill, but one that many designers ignore, assuming that it's just a matter of pulling up their page in a browser. But to create effective web applications, you need to be able to test efficiently. Plus this week we look at an aspect of typography that has eluded web designs for a while—hyphenation. Learn how CSS3 can help. Finally, we're getting close to the end of the school year, and many of you are probably out looking for jobs. It's easy to assume that being a web designer will be the best job out there (I certainly think it is!), but you should go into the job with your eyes open. Not everything about the job is perfect.

An online class can be a great way to learn web design. I offer several free classes here on this site. But there are lots of others to choose from. But how do you know if you're signing up for a good course or not? I have received the following reviews of online web design courses from other About.com readers that can help you choose the online class that is right for you:
one stars Free SEO Class
four stars Free HTML Class
five stars Free CSS Short Course

CSS3 Helps You Control Hyphenation
One of the frustrations of typography on the web is the lack of decent hyphenation control. CSS3 introduces the hyphens property to help you control the hyphens on your web pages. Learn how hyphenation works on the web and how you can control it more effectively.

Do You Want a Job as a Web Developer?
When I first started as a professional web developer, a lot of my co-workers were jealous. But I don't think they realized the true nature of being a professional web developer for a corporation. It's not all fun and games. There are difficult customers, interesting hours, challenging tools, and boring jobs. Don't get me wrong, I love doing web design and development. But if you're thinking of making this your career you should be aware of the drawbacks as well as the benefits.

Poll: Do you delete pages from your websites?
Removing old and outdated content might seem like an obvious thing, but many website owners seem to have a hoarder mentality that outstrips any television show. I have been saying for years that web pages should go away and creating a custom 404 page is an important skill to know. But I know that not everyone agrees with this sentiment.
