From Jennifer Kyrnin, your Guide to Web Design / HTML
This week we look at what the point is to HTML--why learn it and what it can be used for. Plus you'll get some suggestions for how to improve your web pages. And Darla explains how to make documents more semantic with RDF.

There are lots of different software applications that web designers can use to improve their sites. I'd like to know about the tools you find valuable. Write a review of non-editor software you value for doing web design or development.

What Good is HTML?
I was talking to an acquaintance the other day about my HTML class, and he asked me "what is the point of HTML? What can you do with it?" This question honestly floored me, as I'd never really thought about it before. I think that was partially because of how long I've been writing HTML. I started writing HTML before there were any WYSIWYG editors, so for me HTML is all about how to write web pages. What can you do with HTML? Why write web pages! But what does that really mean? This short article examines some of the things that you can do with HTML.

Top Tips to a Great Web Page
Writing a website that people want to visit can be challenging. But there are some things you can do to help improve your chances. These ten tips (and the related articles) are a great place to start.

Advantages of Using RDF
Resource Description Format or RDF is an XML language that describes data on your pages. It is a great way to make your pages more semantic, especially if you use RDFa (RDF with Attributes). Darla offers a great tutorial on how to get started with RDF.

Poll: Do you have an animated favicon?
Personally, I find animated favicons very annoying. But many people really like them. What do you think, do any of your sites use an animated favicon? Or would you use them now that you know they exist?
